Immediate Life Support

The Immediate Life Support (ILS) course is intended to train those involved in the early detection of deterioration in a patient in cardiopulmonary arrest (PCR) and in the application of initial measures, pending the arrival of emergency medical services that can provide Advanced Life Support (ALS). It is therefore a course that falls between Basic Life Support instrumented with Automated External Defibrillator (SVBI and DEA) and ALS.
To take the course, the student must have the SVB and DEA certification with accreditation recognized by the Catalan Council of Resuscitation (CCR).

Accreditations:
5 credits from the Catalan Council for Continuing Education in the Health Professions (CCFCPS).*
100% % attendance to the course is mandatory. Students who successfully pass the theoretical assessments (a 70% % correct answer rate is required) and practical tests will receive an official certificate issued by the CCR.
*The granting of credits for training activities accredited by the CCR depends directly on this body.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

•  Identifying and treating a severe acute patient involves the ABCDE approach (Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Neurological, Exposure).
•  Identifying and treating a patient with PCR-induced DHEA
  or a manual defibrillator, airway equipment and emergency vascular access, pending the arrival of more specialized assistance.
• To become a member of the SVA team if necessary. The dissemination of the theoretical framework and the practical skills that make it up among medical, healthcare and non-medical staff and “first responders” with the aim of preventing and treating PCR.

METHODOLOGY

1st PHASE NOT PRESENTIAL: 15 hours

It is carried out online through the platform enabled by the Catalan Council for Resuscitation (CCR). The student must enroll individually in the course after receiving the appropriate instructions from the IEM, and follow the activities marked by the course consultants, taking into account the established deadlines. The online phase includes a theoretical assessment; the submission and completion of all online activities is essential to be able to attend the face-to-face phase of the course.

2nd PHASE IN PERSON: 8 hours

It is conducted in two 4-hour sessions, and includes 1 theoretical assessment, one practical assessment, theoretical classes, and practical stations.
